There are some fundamental areas in which I aim to help you & will often use EMDR
in conjunction with CBT
to help you gain a better understanding of how your thoughts, feelings & behaviours are linked to how you function:
•Learn how to avoid repeating past mistakes in relationships
•Develop more curiosity, openness and acceptance as tools for positive change.
•Become more accepting and compassionate with yourself and others
•Reflect upon your past experiences as a learning curve in helping you gain an understanding of how you function in your life today
•Improve your relationships and become more “emotionally intelligent”
"I have made so many positive changes since seeing Sandy, I am able now to look at my problems and make decisions as to the best way to solve them, rather than just getting caught in a loop." What Can Therapy Do For You?
Micheal 32 - Herne Bay 2015
You’re making an investment in yourself when you commit to regular sessions with a good therapist. Through your therapist’s empathic and thoughtful support, you are:
•deepening your ability to connect with yourself
•gradually finding ways of living better that emerge from within and actually work for you
•developing your ability to connect with others
Whatever your pain or confusion, counselling can be a way forward to help you make successful changes in your life. Working with you through your worries, pain, fears or trauma, I will also help you explore the positives aspects of who you are today. Together we will work towards finding new ways of looking at your problems, which help you deal with life more effectively.
Working therapeutically in this way helps you recognise your inner strengths, providing you with the tools and strategies with which you can fulfil your dreams for the future.
"I have been seeing Sandy for a little over nine months, after she was recommended to me by my weight loss consultant. I had been suffering from very bad depression and anxiety for a number of years and no pills seemed to help me. She is so approachable and I felt at ease with her straight away. Her techniques have been surprisingly effective, I have been able to open up with her, face my problems and heal. Her openness gradually helped me to feel more positive and I am now able to look to at a much brighter future."
Marie 49 - Dartford 2015
I have been a practising counsellor in Kent for a number of years and am also trained as an EMDR Therapist and Clinical Supervisor; my practice is within easy reach of the centre of Canterbury. I incorporate various areas of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) with most of my clients, which I believe alleviates the symptoms of traumatic or distressing experience within my clients. I often bring in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) into my work to help my clients gain an awareness of how their thoughts are linked to their feelings and behaviour
I am trained as an integrative Counsellor and am Accredited & Registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and am a member of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. I have many years experience as a counsellor, mentor and a lecturer working in education, private practice and within the NHS. I offer a private confidential service in the heart of Kent in Canterbury, open to all ages and cultures, where I work with both individuals and couples.
"I have been taken out of my comfort zone to talk about problems that I've grown up with, this has helped so much in a short space of time. This is definitely something I wouldn't of been able to do without Sandy, who has also taught me how to manage my anger, which was getting out of control and me into trouble."
